Statement
For us, The Magdalena Project means a gathering place: with our own depths, with the ones with an unexplainable beauty, with transmutation, with the cleavage of everyday masks, with faith, with swamps, with unexplainable solitude, our search and needs which make us different, but we act with tenderness with a sister apparently stranger and her unrepeatable universe which is surround with this net that joins us. This is the legacy of 28 years of restless work given by our Magdalena teachers and which involves us in concrete and visible actions.
In Cardiff, Whales, in 2011 during the 25th Magdalena Aniversary under the subject: Legacy and Challenge, this need came up to respond accurately and responsibly to such great generosity of the ones forging this legacy, creating a third generation of Magdalenas: Magdalena3.
Under the context of our plan we want to organize this gathering, Magdalena3: Reinventions, where we want to share and reflect on art as a potent catalyst of the society which can clear our conscious about the Ciudad Juarez context.
Where does creation begins? Which are the artist’s creative motivations? How is the world built? What survived the fire, the artistic needs, the doubts, on a city with so much blood? How to build a personal language? What are the politic, cultural and social resistance spaces needed in this city? How does a teacher teach how to learn, and an aprentice assume the responsibility of recieving such legacy? We know there are lots of questions, which will open further questions and concerns. We believe it's important to give ourselves the opportunity of sharing in the middle of the whirlwind of this city.
The programme is formed of: The Celebration of the 30th anniversary of artistic career of Verónica Leiton (Chile – México), Iliana Vasileva Concert (Bulgary), Maria Sanchez performance (Chihuahua, Mexico), theatrical venues by the Telon de Arena Company(Cd. Juarez, Chih) and Triskel Artes Escénicas (Chile); Armne Arjona poetry readings (Cd. Juarez, Chih), conferences and artistic encounter with Nora Group, Jissel Arroyo and Guadalupe de la Mora (Cd. Juarez, Chih), as well as the Recognizing Detatching (A present absence) Workshop by Carolina Pizarro, and Chilean theater researcher, one of the founding members of the third Magdalena generation: Magdalena 3.
The institutions and organizations involved in the Project are: the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez, supporting with logistics, print publicity of the event, and social service support the day of the conference so we can accomplish the participant counting requirement on the event and registration. Besides, we will have spaces on the Colegio del Frontera Norte, Colegio de Chihuahua and the Telon de Arena, a theater group and Civic Asociation giving their space to us, and their logistic crew with the realisation of the event in co-production with Triskel Artes Escénicas and Candileja Producciones. María Sanchez, theater researcher involved with The Magdalena Project since 2004 is collaborating closely with the organization of the Magdalena3: Reinventions.
The event is self-managed since we have no economic funds for its fulfillment and is realised through the interest of the participants in the gathering.
