Save freedom of expression

As we welcome the warmth of spring, we are also reeling from the cuts in funding for arts, culture, education, and more.
For those of you who missed the news: our project in Jordan was abruptly terminated in the government's purge of foreign aid and cultural programs. We were six months into our program with 60 young women and men across Jordan in support of women's rights.
Contracts were signed. Venues booked. Auditions held. Then with no warning or explanation, the program was shut down.
"This is shocking news for us that a grant from America is frozen in this way."
- Hasan, Director of Zaal & Khadra Creative Arts, our partners in Jordan
This isn't just about us. Across the US, hundreds of arts groups have had their funds suddenly withdrawn mid-project. The arts are the soul of our country - it's how we communicate as humans, as communities, as society. Your voice in support of the arts is so essential.
The cuts have deeply affected Bond Street Theatre's finances. To all of you who have given generously in response -- Thank You! You ensure that we can continue to promote freedom of expression, equality, and social justice!
Where your support is going next:
Your donations will support our efforts in other critical areas where the need for community-led, arts-based free expression is urgent.
Myanmar: Despite media silence and a repressive military regime, we are teaming up again with Thukhuma Khayeethe to train young artists in creative expression. The project aims to bring youth together in a safe space to think, write, and perform.
South Africa: With our partners at Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust, we will return for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in November 2025, continuing our years of creative advocacy for serious action for women's safety.
Thailand: Alongside local organization, Duay Jai, we plan to work with Buddhist and Muslim youth together on the southern border, using theatre as a means to build trust, healing, and challenge disinformation after decades of violence.
United States: We now have the call to present our performances, music, workshops, and speaking engagements here in NYC and the US at a crucial time! This spring and summer, look for us across NYC and beyond bringing community-rooted theatre into public spaces near you...
Why theatre?
Because theatre speaks directly person-to-person about issues that matter to us. Because theatre gives people a voice. It turns observers into active participants in their communities. Because theatre connects us -- it builds trust, rather than fear...
... and because creativity and community are more urgent than ever!
Thank you to our Bond Street Theatre family
Thank you for standing with us, especially as our very existence faces resistance. This is when your support matters most.
With much gratitude,
The Bond Street Theatre team
