make-shift

a networked performance about connectivity & consequences
15 October 2011
Venue:
online
Country:
8.30pm European time
A unique and intimate performance about the fragile connectivity of human and ecological relationships.

The performance takes place simultaneously in two separate houses that are connected through a specially designed online interface. Paula and Helen (one in each house) stage their part of the work with the help of local audience members. Scripted and visually poetic performance is interspersed with webcam videography, avatar puppetry and audience interaction in the format of a performative salon. Everything that happens in the houses is streamed to online audiences who can also contribute text chat visible on the interface to everyone throughout the event.

The next performance of make-shift will take place on Saturday 15 October as part of the "L'art pour L'action" festival in Novi Sad, Serbia; a house in Novi Sad will be connected to a house in the UK, and there will be an online audience as well.

To join the performance online, go to http://make-shift.net/ and click on "LIVE LINK HERE" in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This will take you first to some information about the performance and the interface, and at the time of the performance there will be a live link to the online interface.

Everyone participating is asked to collect all the plastic that they would have thrown away or recycled in the 24 hours before the show (cleaned if necessary) and have it with them to use during the performance.

Information about hosting a make-shift performance in your own home can be found on the web site: http://make-shift.net/
