Song Writing weekend

Starting with simple phrases and harmonies we will build up songs together. If you have texts or poems you would like to compose into songs, please bring them along, and if you play an instrument then do bring it but it is also fine to come with just your voice, as we will cer- tainly create acapella (unaccompanied) group songs.

Evening concert Saturday 18th February
Helen performs her own settings of work by inspiring poets from around the world, together with unusual instruments within an intimate atmosphere. 8.00pm. £9 / £6 concessions (includes drink at interval).

Friday
Registration 4.00-6.00pm on Friday 17th February
Supper together in your group 6.30pm
Course begins with introductions and some vocal warm-up 7.30-9.00pm

Saturday
9.30am—5.00pm with plenty breaks for refreshments and lunch
The day includes writing songs, singing and sharing.
Supper together 6.30pm
CONCERT 8.00pm (included for participants in the weekend)

Sunday
9.30am—4.00pm
The day includes writing songs, singing and completion Ends with afternoon tea and departure.

What to bring:

• something you can record yourself on, eg MP3 player
• pen and paper for lyrics
• manuscript paper if you use musical notation (but we will mainly work just by ear.)

Hawkwood has 42 acres of beautiful grounds so you might want to bring outdoor clothes & footwear to enjoy the surroundings during breaks.

Helen Chadwick is a performance creator, singer and composer who has written over 250 songs and has recorded 10 albums, as well as compos- ing for The Royal Opera House, English Touring Opera, the BBC, Salisbury Cathedral, Greenwich Festival, the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Helen often works with Sian Croose and Ali Burns, and is the founder of Sing for Water, a charity that has raised over £308,000 towards Water Aid projects in India and Africa.
