Renee Torres is a Gestalt facilitator and a theater Director, born in Venezuela. Her father, devoted to theater and social change was many years political prisoner and exerted a strong early influence on her world-view. He was a pioneer of the National Prisoners Drama Festival in Venezuela. Renee began her university studies in medicine; sure that this would be the real way to act towards human development, well-being and eradication of poverty. Meanwhile, she continued theater studies and rehearsals. Soon, decided to devote her work to healing the human mind-soul with theater as a vehicle. Renee continues to study linguistics and physical theater at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, went to the Wroclaw Theater Lab; got a certification on Gestalt psychology at the National Center of Integral Care and Studies of The Family. Lived and work in several countries of South America and Europe. After she presented her paper “MIR, World /Peace” at 1st World Humanists Forum in Moscow at the Academy of Sciences and History in 1993, Renee embarked on developing MIR Project in Europe; a series of workshops, cultural exchanges and artists’ collaborations working across borders with youth, on telling the stories of their cultures and bringing back home the ones learned. The project produced performances in Russia, Scotland, Denmark & Slovenia Malta and USA where she presently lives. She is currently working as independent producer for several festivals, teaches and develops her practice as Body–Mind Process facilitator-counselor. By October 2014 she will have finished the publishing process of her first book, “Eros-Psique Stories”, as well as her new solo piece “Mestiza” She is also preparing a piece by the Venezuelan playwright Rodolfo Santana for the Caracas International Theater Festival.
