S T R A N G E
S T R A N G E [E S T R A N H O] is the devised theatre performance that integrates video projections. A scenic montage that carries affection and enchantment revealing the delicate, poetic and intense world of Gan. The character in his psychic suffering angles love, dreams, lost, the isolation and the pain of emptiness. Seeking to overcome and in exile, Gan continues to visit ‘places’. In his memory he alternates between horror and joy, between the song of the fruits and a strange fruit. He creates a virtual world, lived and experienced in the highest sensitivity and creative power.
S T R A N G E can be seen as a mirror of OUR inner conflicts, our islands, our deserts. A reflection on the concept of “strange”, echoing the question of exclusion of the Other under the stigma of insanity. What would it be like to take the place of this Other? To wear the skin of this Other?
The performance with video projections and audio tracks including compositions by Chopin, Brahms, song Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Verdi's opera and electronic music reveals the story of Gan, a man with serene hallucinations intensified after his mother's suicide. The performance is inspired by the short story Strange Fruit, written by Eveline Costa, director and dramaturge of the performance.
