ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Performance is the catalyst through which I explore my visual practice.
My work is the result of first-hand, practical engagement with performance – as both participant and as creative, documentary image-maker. With additional research, and personal collections of disparate objects and materials, I build images that reflect the original poetics of performance whilst generating new and personal responses to those ideas and performances.

Arribasplata

I am a theater director based in New York City, though I frequently work in the Carolinas in the American South. I am most interested in physical theater, puppetry, and documentary drama, often integrating grassroots community engagement into my creative process. I have worked in both rural South Carolina and in the Ohio prison system in this way. I have trained and worked at Double Edge Theatre, and it is through them that I learned about the Magdalena Project. Currently, I am a Julie Taymor World Theater Fellow traveling throughout Peru, Chile and Argentina to study theater.
