Grenland Friteater cancels Porsgrunn International Theater Festival in 2020.

Unfortunately, we must accept that it will not be possible to hold the Porsgrunn International Theater Festival (PIT) this year. The health authorities' forecasts indicate that the restrictions may last a long time, and if the spread of infection is to be kept at a low level, it will not be possible, let alone justifiable, to make major events in June.

The same applies to Grenland Friteater's own production Herøya 1943, which was to have its premiere under PIT. When the ban on cultural events was introduced, we had already sold more than 90% of the tickets to the 8 performances for which tickets were posted. However, with a scheduled test start in early May and a high number of participants in the performance, we have no opportunity to assemble the ensemble for rehearsals.

Of course, we think this is very sad, but we have no other choice. Since the Corona center quarantined Norwegian culture, Grenland Free Theater has already canceled many events. For the time being, the theater's staff, like so many others, are working from home offices, preparing for what we hope will happen this fall.

So we can only shake off our disappointment and look forward to an even bigger and better PIT and an even better prepared Herøya 1943 in 2021! Performance dates will be posted on the theater's website in the next days. Those who have purchased Herøya 1943 tickets online will receive an email about a date change or refund in the near future. If you have purchased a ticket manually, you must contact the ticket office Ælvespeilet, when it opens.

Grenland Friteater is now working on changing plans for the autumn and hopes that we can come back with an exciting offer to the audience as soon as possible. We won't stop!

In June 2020, Norway’s largest international theater festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Porsgrunn International Theater Festival runs from 16 to 20 June 2020 and the programme is now online.

From day one, PIT has placed the performing arts where it belongs: in front of the audience. Often in unfamiliar surroundings and let the entire city’s architecture and outdoor spaces become stages and arenas. In a shipyard’s dry dock, at the top of the water tower, in parks, streets, museums and industrial areas.

PIT is produced by Grenland Friteater.
