The performing arts in public spaces are artistic formats that deliberately engage with urban and rural life. Everyday places become artistic reference spaces and are brought into new communicative contexts. Through the interaction of space and artistic action, both artistic and social spheres of influence are formed and transformed. Space is understood as a three-dimensional canvas where everything is possible. Circus and performance arts break with social (movement) conventions in public spaces and interpret space in a new way.

As part of our think tank, we want to address the following questions:

  • How can historical narratives be translated into movement? How can site- and time-specific narratives be conveyed through the physical language of the circus / performance?
  • Which concrete approaches to artistic creation are particularly suitable for this?
  • How can site-specific performance be enriched by different aesthetics and the language of the circus? Can spoken language be completely dispensed with?
  • What can contemporary circus achieve as a site-specific performance and which audiences can we reach with it?

The invited artists, experts in site-specific performance and contemporary circus, will work on these and other questions both practically and theoretically in a think tank lasting several days. In workshops, laboratories, (lecture) performances, roundtable discussions, lectures, and discussions exemplary creative approaches and practices will be presented, making the entire range of possible working methods visible.

RAUM ZEIT ZIRKUS

Orts- und zeitspezifischer Zirkus und Performance

Die darstellenden Künste im öffentlichen Raum sind künstlerische Formate, die sich gezielt in das städtische und auch ländliche Leben einbringen. Alltagsorte werden zu künstlerischen Bezugsräumen und gleichzeitig in neue kommunikative Zusammenhänge gebracht. Im Zusammenwirken von Raum und künstlerischer Aktion bilden und verändern sich künstlerische aber auch soziale Wirkungsräume. Raum wird hier als dreidimensionaler Canvas begriffen, an dem alles möglich ist. Zirkus und Performance Kunst bricht mit gesellschaftlichen (Bewegungs-) Konventionen im öffentlichen Raum und interpretiert ortsspezifische Bereiche auf eine neue Art und Weise.

Im Rahmen unseres Thinktanks wollen wir uns mit den folgenden Fragen beschäftigen:

  • Wie lassen sich historische Narrative in Bewegung übersetzen? Wie lassen sich orts- und auch zeit-spezifische Narrative durch die körperliche Sprache des Zirkus / der Performance vermitteln?
  • Welche konkreten Herangehensweisen artistischer Kreation sind dafür besonders geeignet?
  • Wie kann ortsspezifische Performance durch unterschiedliche Ästhetiken und die Sprache des Zirkus bereichert werden? Kann dabei völlig auf gesprochene Sprache verzichtet werden?
  • Was kann der zeitgenössische Zirkus als ortsspezifische Performance bewirken und welche Publika können wir damit erreichen?

Die eingeladenen Künstlerinnen, Expert*innen der ortsspezifischen Performance und des zeitgenössischen Zirkus, werden diese und weitere Fragen in einem mehrtägigen Thinktank sowohl praktisch als auch theoretisch zu bearbeiten. In Workshops, Laboratorien, Lecture Performances, Gesprächsrunden, Vorträgen und Diskussionen werden beispielhaft kreative Ansätze und Arbeitsmethoden präsentiert und so die ganze Bandbreite möglicher Herangehensweisen sichtbar gemacht.
