Programme

We look forward to welcoming you all to the International Women's* Theater Festival (IF*TF) in Frankfurt am Main! At the IF*TF 2024, which is taking place in Hesse for the 8th time in a row, we are asking ourselves the question of “safe spaces” for the sustainable work of women*.

The aim here is not to exclude people in order to create safety for themselves or to permanently install exclusive spaces to ensure the safety of others, but to create a basis for a common feminist culture of peace that includes diversity and respect for our differences and thrives on the participation of all.

We want to encourage our visitors to think about how they can act as co-creators of a space that is safe to. A space in which women* and girls* feel empowered to express themselves authentically in collective processes - a brave space.

The IF*FT is part of the Magdalena Project, a dynamic international network that exists across borders and generations. Here in Germany, we work intersectionally with the theme “SAFER SPACES - The Feminist Culture of Peace”.

Together with international artists from theater, performance, video, visual arts and music, we are looking for moments of intergenerational dialogue that are radical and utopian. That heal, inspire and create more trust and recognition for the work of women*. As victims of violence in society, women* and girls* have an important voice when it comes to enabling a culture of peace.

As independent artists, we are all about creativity, design and change. That's why the question of transformation and innovation is always part of our work. This year, we are focusing in particular on the dialog between black feminism and the performing arts in the context of peace culture.

IF*TF 2024 focuses on the positioning of women* in the world within the work of protagon e.V. in a cross-generational, feminist dialog between theater and politics. Since its foundation, the festival has worked on the visibility of feminism in the performing arts, offers a platform for this debate and aims to be a pioneer and a space for testing feminist practice in the future.

At IF*TF 2024, you are also cordially invited to ask questions, take part in performances yourself and develop future concepts for the theater stages!
