This year, DAH Theater is once again opening up space for artistic freedom and social engagement at its international festival "Arts and Human Rights". From June 10-13 Belgrade will host the fourth edition of the festival, with the theme Thinking Peace.
The festival was founded in 2020, is held biennially and represents platform for initiating and presenting ideas and concepts that put and connect arts and human rights in the foreground, advocate for respect for human rights, the rights of all living beings, as well as the development of that idea in Serbia and in the world.
"Amidst the harsh reality of life under occupation, art remains our form of resistance and our voice that cannot be silenced." - Al-Harah Theater, Bethlehem
In a time of great necessary changes in Serbian society as well as in a global geopolitical context marked by wars, dictatorships and daily violations of human rights around the world, art has the power to open the way to empathy, solidarity and dialogue, which are irreplaceable characteristics of social justice that leads to peace. This year's festival invites participants and the audience to think together not only about the absence of war, but the active presence of justice, human dignity, and positive peace.
"We are all scattered around the world, in different geographies, with very different realities, so whenever we are able to overcome physical distance and come together in person, it is always deeply meaningful and precious. - Andrea Bartoli, Farm Cultural Park, Favara
This unique festival in the region includes 23 activities, at 6 locations in Belgrade, 43 participants from 16 countries of the world, namely: Montenegro, France, Greece, Croatia, the Netherlands, Italy, Jordan/Palestine/Czech Republic, Israel, BiH, Brazil/Greece, Macedonia, Russia, USA, Syria, Ukraine, and Serbia.
Guest artists and activists will show how art can contribute to building peace and a harmonious society through theater plays, workshops, installations, performances, concerts, talks and films. Through various art forms, the festival asks questions: How to think peace in a world full of conflicts? How can art contribute to building a fairer society? How do we remember, face and heal through artistic expression?
Entrance to the festival is free and open to everyone, because we believe that art must be accessible to everyone.
