The Knitting Circle

Spring Tour 2013
25 April 2013 to 20 May 2013
Country:

The Knitting Circle is a funny, emotionally challenging new play by Julie McNamara, offering a chilling glimpse into the secret world of the asylums closed in the 1980's.

“Over twenty years ago I ran a women’s group inside one of the old hospitals, where I lived and worked for two years. You had to be seen to be doing something for the hospital shop, so it was suggested I run a ‘Knitting Circle’. Two years ago I found an old tape from some of the women in that group. I learned a lot about love and a whole heap of mischief. And I still can’t knit!”
(Julie McNamara 2010)

Re-directed by Antoinette Lester, this play is dedicated to forgotten voices. Written from the authentic testimony of survivors, the production is a celebration of the Irrepressible human spirit.

"They were counting on us to remain silent, but we lived to tell the tale"
(Carole, Survivor)

“It was the mischief we got up to kept us going.”
(Mary, Survivor, aged 80)

Produced by Vital Xposure.
