Performances across Europe
and more...

This summer, the TREES project(link is external), supported by Creative Europe, launches a captivating series of outdoor performances across Europe.

Each production reflects a unique artistic response to our relationship with trees, the environment, and cultural heritage. From myth to ritual, from resistance to renewal, these works invite audiences to step into living landscapes shaped by storytelling, movement, and music.

All the performances will be performed at least 10 times in their home country, and they will tour to Frankfurt, Athens, and Seville this summer.

The Breath of the Earth

AEROPLIO & TOPOS ALLOU
Athens, Greece

The Breath of the Earth is an expansive outdoor performance merging Greek mythology and modern environmental themes through movement, live music, and visual storytelling.

Directed by Nikolas Kamtsis, it premieres on June 22, 2025, as the featured event of the FALLEN TREES FESTIVAL in Alsos Galatsiou.

Created after months of development and rehearsal at TOPOS ALLOU Theatre, this immersive experience celebrates the deep interdependence between people and the natural world, appealing to audiences of all ages.

Protagon theatre

Among Trees

ANTAGON THEATERAKTION
Frankfurt, Germany

Among Trees is the newest production by Antagon TheaterAKTion, premiering May 10, 2025. In a powerful blend of physical theatre, dance, and live music, the piece honors trees as living witnesses to centuries of human history—revolutions, wars, and peace. Set outdoors, Among Trees turns to the silent endurance of nature and asks not how we can save the trees, but how they might save us.

Arboreal Resistance

ATALAYA-TNT-ANDANZAS
Seville, Spain

In Arboreal Resistance, nature speaks. This outdoor theatrical ritual confronts the consequences of deforestation and ecological neglect.
Trees become sentient witnesses, drawing on Spanish folklore and forest mythology—especially the mysterious xanas, guardians of the woods. Through music, dance, and movement, the performance reveals both the endurance and fragility of natural life, asking us to reconsider our place in the ecosystem.

Whispering Trees

Grenland Friteater
Porsgrunn, Norway

Premiered on March 11, 2025, Whispering Trees leads audiences on a reflective walk through the forest. Created by Lars Vik and Geddy Aniksdal, this site-specific outdoor experience invites audiences to listen closely as the trees “whisper” stories of resilience, history, and interconnectedness. Drawing on Norway’s landscapes and community theatre tradition, the performance is a quiet yet powerful meditation on the natural world and our place within it.

The Art of Trees

OXYGEN

ZID Theater
Amsterdam, Netherlands

OXYGEN premieres on May 16, 2025, at the ExploreZ Festival. This outdoor urban performance unfolds as a vibrant mosaic of movement, sound, and symbolism. Performers reflect on survival, transformation, and hope, engaging audiences through shared rituals and personal stories. Set in public spaces, OXYGEN turns the city into a stage for environmental reflection and imaginative possibility.

Dancing Trees

DAH Theater
Belgrade, Serbia

Dancing Trees is a site-specific dance theatre production created in collaboration with the Belgrade Dance Institute, premiered on October 30th, 2021. The performance was the starting point of this project.

With a cast of six performers and original music, the show raises awareness about deforestation and global climate change through movement, reflection, and ecological dialogue. Presented in outdoor parks, the performance is part of a larger initiative that includes community talks, a webinar, a digital platform, and a short film. Dancing Trees is both a work of art and a call to civic action in defense of our disappearing forests.
