The Feminist Art Project will be presenting TFAP@CAA 2014 Day of Panels at the College Art Association Conference 2014 in Chicago. Organized by Jennie Klein and Myrel Chernick, the panels will be held at Columbia College on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9:30 am - 5pm.

The theme of the 2014 TFAP day of panels, titled The M Word, is the representation of the maternal in art and visual culture. We are particularly interested in proposals that address the following topics:

  • Exhibitions that have addressed or included work about motherhood/maternity/maternal ideology
  • The historical representation of maternity, particularly those representations that originate from cultures other than western European.
  • Artists whose work addresses the history/re-enactment of art in their work.
  • The maternal body
  • The performance of Maternity and the maternal body
  • The visual representation of biological and non-biological maternity, including non-normate maternity, adoptive mothers, infertility, and the performance of motherhood
  • The ethical implications of working with children
  • Mothers who collaborate with their children.
  • What it means to be a mother and an artist today in relationship to the issue of M/E/A/N/I/N/G on artists/mothers.

The 103rd Annual College Art Association Conference will take place February 11–14, 2015, in New York. The Annual Conference Committee invites session proposals that cover the breadth of current thought and research in art, art and architectural history, theory and criticism, pedagogical issues, museum and curatorial practice, conservation, and developments in technology.

The submission process for 2015 proposals opened on Monday, June 24, 2013. In order to submit a proposal, you must be a current CAA member.

The Feminist Art Project is a collaborative national initiative celebrating the Feminist Art Movement and the aesthetic, intellectual and political impact of women on the visual arts, art history, and art practice. The project is a strategic intervention against the ongoing erasure of women from the cultural record.
